WAJIR—Wajir governor Ahmed Abdullahi has kicked off his re-election bid at the backyard of his rival, Mohamed Abdi.

A week after he unveiled his line-up on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, the governor hit the campaign trail to win hearts and minds just over two weeks before the holy month of Ramadhan.

On Saturday, he toured parts of Tarbaj constituency in what he termed meet-the-people tour. He made stop-overs in Jowhar, Doqsa, Dasheeg, Kajaja One and Kajaja Two.

On Sunday, Ahmed held public baraza at Katote, Hassan Yarow, Haragal, Dambas and Tarbaj town where he appealed to the electorates to serve him a second term in office.

“I am happy for the reception and endorsement accorded to me and my team,” he said.

Just last week, the governor unveiled his line-up at a hotel in Wajir. The team consisted of Ahmed Nunow, his running mate and Barey Diis for women representative.

Abdirahman Abdiqadir was picked for senator after the serving one opted to resign from politics at a ceremony in Wajir early this year.

Ahmed Nunow and Abdirahman Abdiqadir are youthful first-timers who have never served in any political office. The former was picked from Wajir North while the latter hails from Wajir South.

“My administration will be all-inclusive and we shall continue to foster the same,” he said.
