WAJIR—Degodia clan elders in Wajir have endorsed former Saudi envoy for the top job in the county during a political rally in Wajir. The endorsement follows a day-long meeting at a farm in Wajir town on Sunday where the clan members met to discuss the way forward.

Amb. Mohamed Abdi Mohamud is challenged for the seat by the incumbent Ahmed Abdullahi and Ahmed Muhumed.

At the Sunday meeting where the leaders met to discuss the endorsement of Mr Mohamed, the governor skipped the event saying it was not inclusive.

The meeting was led by the Eldas MP Aden Keynan and Tarbaj legislator Mohamed Ibrahim.

“We endorsed him during the 2013 elections, but he failed to perform as we had wanted him to,”Aden Keynan said.

On Monday in Wajir during a public rally at Orahey, the Ugas of Fai and his counterparts from other Degodia sub-clans were present. Wajir East member of parliament Abass Sheikh Mohamed and nominated senator Halima Abdille also attended the rally.

Amb. Mohamed argued that he was ready to take charge if elected, saying he left the Gulf state of Saudi Arabia as the country’s envoy to lead at home.

“Today, I want to tell you that I am ready to serve you,” he said.

His endorsement came a day after governor Ahmed Abdullahi led another section of elders to back him for the seat.

“We need to show unity at such times,” the former Teachers Service Commission Ibrahim Hussein, a clan elder said at Sunrise Academy where Ahmed Abdullahi, too, was endorsed for a second term.
