NAIROBI—Wajir South and Wajir North are forming alliance ahead of the General Elections to clinch the Wajir county top job.

At a hotel in Nairobi on Monday, the deputy governor of Wajir Abdihafidh Yarow and Aden Enow joined leaders and elders from Wajir South ahead of an announcement to formalise their union in the run up to the August polls.

The political leaders and the clan elders from the Ogaden and Ajuran, the second and the third populous clans in the county will back Ahmed Muhumed for governor and Abdihafidh as his deputy governor.

Both men enjoy massive support in their respective backyard because they are both fronted by their clan members in negotiated democracy.

”Yes, we have partnered with Abdihafidh,” confirmed the Secretary of the Ogaden Supreme Council Abukar Ga’al.

Kulan Post understands that the former Wajir senatorial hopeful Aden Enow has surrendered his ambition and made way for Abdihaffh since the Ajuran favours the position of deputy governor over senator.

A week ago, former Wajir North MP Abdullahi Kabreta said he settled for the former immediate Saudi envoy Mohamed Abdi Mohamud after he was contacted by his team.

“Yes, i did,” Kabreta replied when we asked about his political move.

“I was never engaged by Wajir South team,” he added.

On the weekend, the Waaqle, an Ajuran sub-clan endorsed Ahmed Nunow as their preferred deputy governor and the incumbent Ahmed Abdullahi may likely appoint his running mate from Wajir North although its not clear who the candidate will be.

Abdihafidh spoke at a press conference orgernised by Mohamed Abdi team a fortnight ago where he castigated Ahmed for running the county as a one-man show.

His fall-out with his 2013 partner emerged late last month when the governor visited Wajir North without his deputy.
