Wajir voters send entire county assembly members packing

WAJIR—Voters in Wajir County made history last week after they opted to unseat 28 of the 30 elected county assembly members.
Section of the voters said the members failed to perform their duties while others maintained that they were too amateur for the job.
“Some of the members were too young to weigh the serious issue on the table,” Mohamed Salman Ali, 46, a voter at Lagboqol South told Kulan Post.
Representative from Barwaqo and Sarman are the only members who retained their seat in the just concluded general elections.
Wajir County assembly made it to the national headlines in 2013 after the members resorted to fist-fight. Since then, the public remained skeptical of its performance.
Even the speakers of the assembly, Bishar Omar was not spared after he contested for the Wajir East parliamentary seat to which Wipers’s Rashid Kassim won.
“We sent them home so that it can serve as a warning to the new members,” Mohamed Salman added.
Wajir County has a new governor, Mohamed Abdi (Jubilee) , senator Abdullahi Ali (Jubilee) and a women representative Fatuma Gedi (PDR).
Apart from Eldas constituency, Trabja, Wajir East, Wajir West, Wajir North and Wajir South have new legislators.
