NAIROBI—AfriCOG has flawed IEBC for its mistakes in the recently held election, saying it did not ensure voting was conducted using accountable and verifiable system.

Speaking at their office in Lavington, on Monday, AfriCOG executive director, Gladwell Otieno said the electronic system failed and produced misleading and incorrect tally of votes.

“The Electronic Result Transmission System (ERTS) failed quite early in the day but oddly enough the results recorded in some of those cases was higher than results produced at the end of the day which seem illogical.” stated Otieno.

She said that we as a country are engaged in a sort of upward spiral of increasingly expensive election, procuring expensive and elaborate technology which collapses when put to test.

“We saw that laptops failed, people forgot their passwords and they didn’t seem to be some sort of contingency for them to recover their passwords, so that led the controlled mechanism of form 34s result being transmitted by phone to national tallying center and the constituency that failed.”

Otieno also said agents were locked out of tallying centers on allegations of being rowdy after perceived system failure.

She further explained that there were irregularities on form 34s the original polling station document. This irregularities affected the validity and credibility the outcome results and declaration of the election.

She faulted the IEBC for having repeated the same mistakes that occurred in the 2013 elections.
