WAJIR—Section of Wajir County leaders have called on the supporters of the new governor to “give space” to the county boss.

Speaking at Wajir Stadium at the fete to mark the inauguration of governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud and his deputy Ahmed Ali Mukhtar, the leaders urged the residents to lower their expectations.

“Let us give the governor the space he needs to perform his duties,” Eldas legislator Aden Keynan said.

He added that, “The expectations are high given the support you extended to him, but we will have to lower them to limit the pressure.”

He was echoed by Wajir West MP-elect Ahmed Kolosh who warned against targeting county workers.

“Let us not target county workers from areas assumed as hostile during the campaign period,” he said.

The County Women MP-elect Fatuma Gedi urged the new administration not to displace county staff, but secure more opportunities for the youths.

“I want to call upon the governor to diligently serve the people of Wajir and distribute opportunities equally,” she said amid cheers from the public.

In his inaugural speech, governor Mohamed Abdi assured that he would not target specific county employees but embrace everyone.

“My administration will embrace everyone into the same stream of devolution in the hope of revitalizing the sub-counties as well as wards and ensuring they receive equal attention at all the levels of the County,” he said.

The comment by the leaders came at a time when county staff from areas perceived as opposition expressed fear over job loss.
