NAIROBI—Mandera North Member of Parliament (MP) has been ranked best performing legislator in Mandera County and third best nationally in two separate pollsters in a week.

Major Bashir Abdullahi (Rtd) who serves as the vice chair of the Parliamentary Commitee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations committee, was listed as the best MP in “Ground Visibility and Bunge Contribution” survey conducted by Timely Kenya, a poll firm based in Nairobi. He scored 58% closely followed by his Mandera South counterpart, Haro Abdul (56.6).

On Tuesday, another poll firm—Pollsters Ranking—rated him the third best MP in Kenya. According to the researchers, the two-time legislator was lauded “for his contribution in the National Assembly, prudent management of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and the role he played in peace and reconciliation in the sporadic Mandera North inter-clan conflicts.”

Bashir was first elected as MP in 2017 and defended his seat in the last elections on an United Democratic Movement (UDM) ticket. On February, Bashir was picked as the chairman of the Pastoralist Parliamentary Group (PPG), a caucus made up of 105 Members of Parliament from 15 counties in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands.
