WAJIR—As NASA and Jubilee tussle for political supremacy in Kenya, Wajir East Member of Parliament Rashid Kassim (Wiper) says elections should the be the least of concern for pastoralists at a time when there’s a biting drought.

With over thousands of livestock dying due to lack of pasture and water, endangering the livelihoods of the community who are predominantly pastoralists Rashid says the drought should be taken seriously.

“Our people trek tens of kilometers to water their animals, a lot of the livestock died, some sold their animals for sustenance and others  crossed to other counties which means elections is not a luxury we can afford” Rashid Kassim said.

Kassim made the comment while distributing tones of relief food to cusion the pastrolists from the biting drought. He also said he would track water to pastoralist at their convenient water points.

The legislator echoed the NASA stance of No Reforms No Elections saying IEBC is incapable of delivering free, fair and credible elections and urged Wajir residents to brave the biting drought and safeguard their livelihoods.

Abdi Mohammed Balbal has lost half of his livestock at Khorof Harar saying that he, “Could lose all his cattles if the October rains fail and no help is realised at this area.”
