NAIROBI—Yesterday, the civil society group brought about a major storm after presenting a petition in a bid to deny 20 politicians to hold any public office.

The civil group has appealed to the electoral body to deny them clearance  to run in the upcoming General Election.

The National Integrity Alliance’s action seeks to blacklist serving politicians among them 7 governors and eight members of parliament.

The 20 politicians whose names have  been blacklisted are accused of different crimes—hate speech, corruption and abuse.

Some of them included; Governor Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Evans Kidero ( Nairobi), Alfred Mutua (Machakos ), Okoth Obade (Migori), Cyprian  Awiti (Homa Bay), Ken Lusaka(Bungoma) and Mwangi Wa Iria (Murang’a).

Others include: Nairobi senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko, Kirinyaga aspiring  governor (Anne Waiguru), Mps Ferdinard Waititu (Kabete), Alfred Keter (Nandi), Asman Kamama  (Tiaty), Elizabeth Ongoro (norminated), Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Oscar Sudi (Kapseret) and Mattew Lempurkal (Laikipia North).

Also on the list is Uasin Gishu women representative aspirant  Gladys  Shollei, CS Kazungu Kambi who is contesting against Kilifi governor, Ochilo Oyacko who is fighting for the Migori governor’s seat and lastly Dandora area II aspiring  MCA Stephen Murathi Kambi.

The allegations against them include abuse of office, audit queries about finances and participation in violence.

“We have handed this list to the vetting agencies for action. It is not our role to register or clear aspirants,” said alliance member Irungu Houghton, who is from the Society for International Development.
