MANDERA—Mandera County commissioner Fred Shishia has warned political leaders and social media users of incitement as the country gears towards electioneering period.
Speaking to press, the security chief warned the leaders of public incitement during public political rallies.
“If you think you can incite communities who are living peacefully because you think that it will give you victory in the elections, then we are telling you to rethink again,” Sishia said.
He further warned social media users of inciting clan clashes and sending subversive messages and threats on social media, saying the users can be traced and prosecuted.
“If you can write inappropriate things on social media and you thing you can go away with it, then we are telling you that we are coming for you,” the county security boss warned.
Social media sites such as Facebook and Whatsapp have lately been awash with inflammatory messages and threats by users with different political and clan affiliations.
Mandera County has seen deadly clan clashes in 2013 pitting the Degodia and Garre clans.
