MANDERA—At least five security officers escorting Mandera governor to a location in the county have died following blast attack that targeted his convoy between Fino and Arabia.

The governor was engaged in his reelection campaign when his convoy was attacked.

“I lost five of my security officers including my personal bodyguard at an attack on my convoy between Arabia and Fino at around 1pm,” Governor Ali Roba said.

The attack comes barely three days after the deputy president William Ruto attended a Jubilee rally in Mandera.

On Wednesday morning, at least three people have been  confirmed dead at Kulan, Garissa after a police vehicle was hit by a landmine.

According to the  police, the vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device before it went up in pieces.

It was not immediately clear if the victims are police officers or civilians.
