MANDERA—A mass grave with at least 5 bodies , including 80 year old woman, was found in a thicket in Gari ,Lafey Consituency, Mandera county on Monday.
It is believed the victims were five people who have been kidnapped from Fino three days ago.
They are allegedly victims of what are suspected to be forced disappearances and extrajudicial killings by security agencies.
Just five days ago ,two bodies were found dumped on the outskirts of Mandera town.
It is believed the two were among more than 50 people who have been reported missing in the county.
One of the female victims is the perternal aunt of Mandera East MP who angrily reacted to the news.
According to Lafey residents, security forces surrounded the town few days ago and harrased the locals while demanding for the identities of the people who are behind the spate of landmine targets in the area.
County leaders and Mandera clan elders are tomorrow expected in Mandera to pressure the government and create media awareness of the incident.
“Our leaders will also demand from the government whether killing citizens and dumping their bodies in forests is the new policy towards citizen not confirmed whether guilty or not,” a statement by Mandera elders released on Monday evening, read in part.
