NAIROBI—Professionals from the Nothern Kenya have faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Executive Order on the 1st of March which affected top officials from the region.

In a statement on Thursday, the North Eastern Professionals Forum termed the Order “discriminative “ saying it targeted professionals from the Somali community.

“The removal of Ms. Fatuma Hirsi from service, the demotion of Amb. Dr. Amina Mohamed and the continued re-assignment of Mr. Alinoor Ismail and Dr. Ibrahim from one State department to another as contained in the Executive Order of 1st March 2019 is an affront to the dignity and integrity of our professionals,” the statement by NEPA said in part.

It added that, “The President’s action as contained in the said Executive Order sends negative signals across the country since it casts a shadow of doubt on the sincerity of the ‘Handshake’ and the notion of national unity and inclusivity.”

The group said the President’s decision fed the notion that the Somali community has overtaken the public service.

“As a membership organization that brings together all the professionals from the Somali community in Kenya, we cannot sit back and watch as the seeds of Somali phobia are being sown and the negative and erroneous notion that the Somali community has taken disproportionate space in the public service, go unchallenged,” the group said.
