The Imam of Wajir’s Jamia Mosque collapse while performing Dhuhr prayers

NAIROBI—The lead Imam of the central mosque in Wajir has passed on Monday afternoon at South C in Nairobi, family members have confirmed to Kulan Post.

The late Sheikh Mohamed Deeq Aidid was the imam of the Jamia mosque in central Wajir since mid 2007 when the founding imam, Sheikh Mohamed Shukri died after a short illness.

“He was humble and respected imam and teacher,” Sheikh Mohamud told Wajir FM.

DEEQStudied at the prestigious Madina University in the holy town of Medina, the late sheikh returned to Wajir to teach at his former Madrasa—Al Fatah Islamic Institute in central Wajir.

He rose the ranks and until his death, he was the principal.

His colleagues at the institute say he was behind the force that revived the institution and started paying the teachers monthly salaries.

Sheikh Deeq collapsed while performing Dhuhr prayers at a mosque located in Green 1 Estate in South C, Nairobi.

He was mourned by county leaders led by the senator, Abdirahman Ali Hassan and Ahmed Muhumed, Wajir County gubernatorial aspirant.

He will be buried at the Langata Muslim Cemetery as per the Islamic custom.
