WAJIR—Degodia elders led by their chairman Ibrahim Hussein have once again endorsed Governor Ahmed Abdulahi for a second term in office.

This follows after Aden Keynan and Tarbaj MP Mohamed Elmi led another camp of elders in another meeting at the Sheikh Ibrahim farm in Wajir town in favour of Mohamed Abdi Mohamud.

The elders reiterated their support and reaffirmed the commitment they made last month at the county hall in Wajir in favour of Ahmed Abdullahi.

At the Sunrise Academy meeting in Wajir, the elders castigated the legislators—Keynan, Mohamed Ibrahim of Tarbaj and Abass Sheikh of Wajir East—for creating confusion withing the community.

“We need to show unity at such times,” the former Teachers Service Commission said.

He added that, “Kings are not replaced, they choose to relinquish power on their own.”

On his part, Ahmed Abdullahi thanked the elders for supporting his second term bid.

“Once again, many thanks to the respected elders of the Degodia Clan for sticking by their earlier decision of my endorsement,” he said.

He lauded the elders for “refusing to be intimidated and for putting the clan interest first.”

“The elders have shown that They will not be swayed by selfish opinion of few individuals at the expense of the interest the larger community,” he added.

In late January, elders drawn from the Degodia sub-clans endorsed the incumbent for a second term.

Similarly, elders from the Ogaden and the Ajuran clans also attended the Saturday meeting in show of support despite the Ogadens fronting their own candidate for the August elections.

“I also wish to thank the Ajuran and Ogaden elders present to witness history being made as thousands turned out for my grand endorsement,” the governor said on his Facebook Page.
