NAIROBI—The Ajuran professionals in Wajir county have unanimously supported the selection Ahmed Nunow as the running mate for governor Ahmed Abdullahi

Speaking to Kulan Post, Ahmed Adan Hefow, the Secretary-General of the Waqle Professional and Governing Council said the community has identified Nunow to deputise for the incumbent following broad-based discussion.

He similarly dismissed reports that section of the sub-clan have rejected the selection of the educationist, saying it was propaganda aimed at sabotaging the process and the clan’s choice.

“In our shared mission of non-discriminatory development, peace and togetherness, we have endorsed Ahmed Abdullahi for a second term and blessed Ahmed Nunow to be his running mate,” Hefow said.

He said the professionals employed a hybrid system before they settled for Ahmed Nunow—acclamation and actual voting by the 9-member committee.

“Firstly, we sent out word of invite for any clan member who had an interested to deputise for the incumbent and three candidates applied: Mohamed Abdullahi Yahya, Daud Ibrahim and Ahmed Nunow,” he explained.

The candidate were required to deposit a non-refundable fee of sh100,000, satisfy the Chapter Six of the Constitution and must have participated in voluntary service to the people of Wajir County.

Ahmed Nunow was picked after he was voted for by five of the nine member committee.

“Our role was to provide directional leadership for the clan and identify flag-bearers in the best interest of the people,” Ahmed noted.

In a press conference at Serena towards the end of February, section of Wajir leaders said they would not support the county governor for a second term. Wajir North legislator Saney was among the leaders who spoke at the presser and denounced the incumbent for poor leadership.

However, in a rejoinder the Waqle professionals dismissed his statement as personal saying he was not spokesperson for the clan members.

“We will have disagreement, but we will disagree as brothers and never stop working towards victory and very importantly towards real change,” Ahmed Hefow said.
