WAJIR—The campaign to clinch the Women representative seat in Wajir is getting hotter as more women join the fray.

On Saturday in Wajir, Farhia Haji Abdille presented her candidature to Wajir resident ten days to the end of the voter registration exercise.

“I am the right woman for you,” Farhia told a crowd of supporters who converged at an open marketplace in Wajir.

A number of vehicles kept waiting for her at the Wajir International Airport and immediately the plane she was aboard touched down, she was accompanied by the convoy across the town.

“It is aimed at sending signal to all doubting her candidature,” Ahmed Mursal, a supporters said.

The race is set to accommodate, at least so far, Abdia Baraka, Halima Shina, Fatuma Gedi and the incumbent Fatuma Ibrahim.

Speaking to Kulan Post, Farhia maintained that she was in the race. “…people opposed to me have rumoured that I gave up my dream of representing Wajir women at the parliament. I am now more optimistic and energetic than before.”

“I am the right choice for Wajir County,” she argued.

Farhia was born and schooled in Wajir. She said she would be able to discharge her parliamentary roles more efficiently owing to her role at Wajir county assembly where she’d tendered her resignation as per the IEBC election rules.
