NAIROBI—Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore has dismissed claims by NASA that the telecommunication firm colluded with the IEBC and Safran Morpho to rig the August 8 polls.

In a statement on Tuesday, he said the firm transmitted all election results from the KIEMS kits to IEBC servers as per the laid down procedures.

The transmission of the results from the servers to the national tallying centre at the Bomas of Kenya was solely IEBC’s mandate, he added. Collymore said encrypted data was transmitted through a Virtual Private Network to guard against manipulation.

“Contrary to what is alleged in the NASA statement, results from the kits deployed in Safaricom zones were transmitted and are on the IEBC web portal.”

This was after NASA leader Raila Odinga claimed one of Safaricom’s VPNs terminated transmission of results cutting links between KIEMs kits and IEBC servers.

He claimed the IEBC cloud server to which transmission was terminated is registered in Spain but operated from France by OT-Morpho – the KIEMS kits supplier.
