At the same time the leaders called on the government to implement recommendations submitted to the head of state by NEP leaders meant to address insecurity challenges that have gripped the three counties of Mandera, Wajir and Garissa.

Speaking to the press in Nakuru, the leaders led by the Rift Valley Majlis Ulamaa representative, Sheikh Muhiddin Sambul said local communities need to be involved in policy making and participate in forums that are aimed at sharing knowledge in order to deal with challenges of terrorism and counter-terrorism.

”Educating local communities on counter-terrorism will be one way of fighting terror,” Sheikh Sambul said.

He said as a minority, Muslims continue to experience several challenges but through constant engagements with the government and other stakeholders, these concerns can adequately be addressed.

The chairman also advised local communities to shun inter-clan conflicts and live peaceful as one community to promote social-economic development

He called upon North Eastern residents to support the newly appointed North Eastern regional coordinator Ambassador Muhamoud Saleh and participate in government efforts meant at curbing the threat of radicalization and terrorism.
