GARISSA—Key stakeholders  in matters of education in Garissa county has embarked on a  full training of teachers on the new curriculum that was introduced in the country recently  by education CS, prof Fred Matiangi.

In a meeting held last week with the national steering committee, cabinet secretary for education, Fred Matiangi, pointed out that the process will be gradual with the phasing out of the 8.4.4 system expected to be completed by 2027.

The minister noted that more than 170000 teachers were undergoing training in most parts of the country.

Director of quality assurance in  North Eastern,  Abshir Mohamed, who was part of the training, assured the residents that the curriculum is one of the best and there is need to embrace it.

He further added that the new curriculum is way better than the current one.

“ The way many people understood the new curriculum  during the training, it is far much better than the current curriculum” he said.

According to Abubakar jillo, one of the teachers who took part in the training, said it was good but pleaded with key stakeholders to offer more training time to understand the curriculum.

“We need  more time and more training to understand the new curriculum more deeper “he said.

He further added that in new curriculum, students will only focus on what he or she needs in future than the previous curriculum in which the students were learning many subjects that were mostly irrelevant.

“We as teachers are happy to welcome this curriculum in our schools and we are proud of it “he said

The ECD director, Ahmed Bishar, has also welcomed the exercise or rather the new curriculum.

“Well, this is a good step, but what we need is more training for our teachers,” he said

“In this new learning system, teachers will nature the child’s ability at early stage,”  he added

The new education system will be tasted come May 2018 in various schools.
