ISIOLO—Armed bandits have reportedly killed two people and injured one near Modagashe along the border of Isiolo and Garissa counties after they ambushed a vehice they were travelling in.

Garba Tulla Deputy County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto confirmed that on Thursday evening bandits believed to be from Lagdera, Garissa County ambushed a Toyota Probox car carrying seven passengers which was plying the road. The attack happened three kilometres from Modogahse Township.

“The armed bandits were aimlessly spraying bullets at the moving vehicle. We have enhanced patrol in the area to prevent further attacks as we tirelessly pursue the suspects,” said the DCC.

Mr.Rutto said he suspected that the ambush might have been a retaliatory attack by the bandits following the deaths of two herders in Boji, Garba Tulla Sub-County three weeks ago.

“Two male passengers including the owner of the vehicle, Hassan Daudi, aged 40, and a herder only identified as Khalif were shot dead during the attack,” confirmed Mr.Rutto.

A  young lady aged about 25 years was also injured and is receiving treatment at Lagdera Hospital, Garissa County.

He said they are pursuing three suspects in collaboration with a security team from Lagdera Sub-County and were seeking to restore normalcy as shops in Modagashe were closed due to fear.

The attack occurred  Iresaboru-Modogashe road in Isiolo County.
