Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the mass killings of quary workers by suspected Al Shabaab Militia men.

Ambosorder Mohamud Saleh, the North Eastern regional commissioner confirmed the arrest of the suspect and said the man is accused of masterminding the attack that killed four quarry worker two weeks ago in Shimbir Fatuma, a village in the Kenya Somali boarder.

The regional commissioner did not close the identity of the suspect stating the man was part of a local Al shabaab operative living in Shimbir Fatuma and was trained in Somalia after senior Al shabaab members recruited him.

“The remaining suspects who are on the run will be arrested very soon. We have their names and identity with us. They are people who are known and we shall get them. They cannot run out of our sight.” Saleh said

Speaking to journalist at the Garissa Airstrip, Mr Saleh said the hunt for his accomplices who are well known in the area is ongoing urging the residents to work with the authorities to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

“These days we get a lot of information, thanks to members of the public who are really cooperating with the security apparatus in sharing crucial leads which we keep in confidence,” he added.
