Majority Leader Aden Duale wants Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to drop lawyer Miguna Miguna as Deputy Governor nominee.

The Garisssa Town MP said on Thursday that President Uhuru Kenyatta should be consulted on who should become the city’s DG.

“Miguna’s name should be dropped and Uhuru consulted on who the Jubilee choice for DG is,” Duale said in a phone interview.

“Miguna is not a member of the party thus he is not qualified under the Political Parties Act and the timelines given in it.” he added

The fiery lawyer who vied for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat in the August 2017 general-election has been one of Sonko’s greatest critics.

The declaration by Sonko came moments after he postponed his return date to the country over unsettled issues with the Immigration Department.

Sonko’s choice on deputy governor comes months after Polycarp Igathe resigned. The Supreme Court had issued an order to have Governor Sonko nominate Igathe’s replacement.

Duale further noted that there are a number of unanswered questions regarding Miguna’s citizenship and his legibility to run for any office, so he would be disqualified under the IEBC Act.

“The Nairobi Deputy Governor must be somebody whom the party, through its leadership. has discussed and agreed upon. Miguna is not the choice of Jubilee, bearing in mind that as a party we see serious issues of integrity around him.” Duale noted.

The National Assembly Majority Leader, however, dismissed claims that the Governor has fallen out with the Executive and that he nominated Miguna to send a message.
