Police arrest four men in Garissa over possession of illegal firearms

GARISSA—Police in Garissa are holding four armed male suspects, four firearms, 19 rifle magazines, about 500 rounds of ammunition and several mobile phones nabbed during their arrest Sunday at Nuno, Garissa County.

The arrest and recovery follow action taken by NPS Officers from Garissa Police Station in collaboration with a Border Police Unit which led to the interception of a white vehicle make Toyota Probox in the Nuno area, with 4 male occupants.

The four suspects include Yussuf, 40; Ali, 39; Ahmed, 29; and Abdullahi, 38.

During the arrest, all four were donning military gear, each armed with an AK-47 rifle and with hundreds of ammunition.

Also recovered were a balaclava, a ballistic helmet, a knife and a machete.

The motor vehicle is currently detained and the four are awaiting arraignment in Court as investigations continue.

The National Police Service on their Twitter handle appreciated members of the public that tipped the officers with the information which led to the success of this operation.
