Somali, Italian leaders arrive in Ethiopia for trilateral meeting

ADDIS ABABA—Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud have arrived in Addis Ababa today for official working visits.

Both leaders have been warmly welcomed upon arriving at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on Friday afternoon. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed received his Italian counterpart Meloni who has embarked on a two-day official visit to Ethiopia.

“The visit is instrumental in further strengthening the ties between our two countries,” Abiy said in a tweet.

Meloni’s visit is aimed at deepening the partnership between the two countries.

During her stay, the Prime Minister will meet with high-level Government officials from Ethiopia and the African Union.

“Ideas will also be exchanged on regional, continental, and global issues of common concern,” the foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

The Italian leader began her visit a few hours ahead of Somalia President Mohamud’s arrival at Addis Ababa airport. President Mohamed who is also on a two-day working visit in Addis Ababa met Prime Minister Abiy.
