MANDERA—Suspected clan militia attacked a public service vehicle that  operates at  Elwak – Mandera route.

Eyewitnesses said the Toyota Land Cruiser was sprayed with bullets at the notorious Corner S near Wargadud area that is prone to terror and inter clan attacks.

Three passengers are  in critical condition while several others including the driver are nursing slight injuries. They are currently receiving treatment at Wargadud health center as plans are underway to transfer them to Elwaq sub county hospital.

The number of passengers who were in the vehicle when it was attacked has not yet been established.

This is an area believed to be at the center of  community land dispute between the Murele and Garre sub clans.

Efforts by Kulan post to confirm the incident from government officials including the Mandera Sub county commissioner  Kutswa Olaka were futile after several phones calls went unanswered.

“There’s laxity along the Kenya-Somalia border, security officers take bribes hence have been compromised”, said Mandera South Member of Parliament after Al shabaab attacked the area on Tuesday.

Two people died during that attack, while two others were critically injured after their vehicle ran over an IED in Mandera. Al Shabaab was suspected.

Al Shabaab terrorists have recently targeted cars through IEDs buried in roads and destroyed communication masts.
