MARSABIT—The nomination of Ukur Yattani to the cabinet as a CS has faced opposition from the Marsabit county leadership.

In a press statement, the leaders claim that the ambassador’s political career is a demonstration of contempt to the Rule of law and have accused Yattani of promoting politics that thrive on division and exclusion.

The county leaders also noted that Ukur Yattani is under investigation by the Ethics and Anti corruption commission (EACC) on allegations of abuse of office, corruption and misappropriation of funds.

“Such politics is toxic to our national integration and cohesion and appointing Ukur would, therefore, reward his efforts to create ethnic divisions and social disharmony in Marsabit County and beyond,” the leaders said in a statement.

The elected leaders led by Governor Mohamud Mohamed blamed the nominating authority for not considering the interests of the people of Marsabit county while nominating the Ambassador as the cabinet secretary.

They further urged that his nomination and appointment would amount to a celebration of impunity and divisive politics.

Other leaders who opposed the nomination include: Godana Hargura (Senator), Canon Naomi Wako(Nominated senator), Safia Sheikh Adan (Women Rep), Dido Rasso (Saku Constituency MP), Musa Arbele (Laisamis Constituency MP), Qalicha Gufu( Moyale Constituency MP), Mathew Loltome(Speaker)  and  Halkano Konso (Majority Leader).
