Business owners in Mandera and Wajir counties are counting losses following heavy rainfall that cut off transportation of oil to the region.

In an unprecedented move, the Kenya Power and Lighting Company has last week released a presser, saying the two counties will have to contend with repeated power outage.

”The bad roads have complicated the transportation of fuel from Nairobi,” KPLC said.

Garissa-Wajir road remains impassable for a month now as heavy rainfall pounds the country, flooding most roads.

Section of Garissa, Mandera and Wajir counties are supplied by fuel generating electricity connection.

”As a result of the floods which begun last week, our fuel tankers are currently stalled at the banks of Ewas Nyiro River in Garissa County,” the statement added.

It continued, ”Consequently, power generation and supply to the counties is likely to be affected.”
