GARISSA—The Kenya defense forces recruitment has kicked off today in Garissa County with hundreds of youth taking part in the exercise.
It is unfortunate that most of the youths who were taking part in the exercise were turned away as they had different credentials in their certificates and identity cards.
Speaking at Garissa primary grounds senior recruiting officer LT colonel Zachariah Burundi said the turnout was good and above expectation but the youths close to 100 had different contradicting credentials in their certificate.
“Some of the names on the identity card were not tallying with those on their certificates “said colonel Burundi.
Colonel Burundi noted that despite the huge turnout, ladies shied away from the exercise as only three ladies who showed up were selected.
“The only challenge the team faced is low turnout of ladies this was against our expectations. “He highlighted.
Lt Burundi also noted that most of the candidates did not meet the expected physical requirement as most of them were too light.
“We eliminated some of the candidates who did not meet our requirements of having an average of 55 Kg.” Said the colonel.
Lt Burundi dismissed reports suggesting that they were gender biased in most areas of the recruitment and insisted that they were not looking at the numbers but the quality of the candidates regardless of male or female.
The lieutenant said that the whole recruitment exercise was targeting the three divisions of Sankuri central division, Garissa and Korakora.
Burundi finally appealed to the media to act as a watchdog during the selection period on who is fit to join the forces as there were claims of corruption cases where some candidates were being recruited from the back door.
Garissa leaders now want CS Kindiki to “produce 4 youths kidnapped by the police.”
