MAKUENI—The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has asked the police to investigate and prosecute a man captured in a video assaulting a woman in Makueni County.
The man identified as Nzomo in an amateur video is seen delivering kicks, blows and slaps on a defenseless woman.
On his twitter account the DPP has urged the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to immediately investigate the matter.
“The DPP’s attention has been drawn to a viral video clip of a man assaulting a woman in Makueni. Consequently, the DPP has directed the DCI Kenya to immediately have suspect arrested & arraigned before court, “reads a tweet from the office of the DPP published Tuesday.
Haji further directed that those who watched and participated in the unacceptable brutality be arrested and arraigned in court too.
The incident has elicited a lot of outrage from the public with Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior condemning the incident.
“David Nzomo is on the run, but he cannot hide. His savage and beastly acts against his defenseless wife Mwende Mwongeli are tantamount to attempted murder. The authorities have assured us that they will unearth him by hook or crook,” Kilonzo Junior stated in his twitter account.
Mwende was admitted to Makueni County Referral Hospital where she was rushed by Good Samaritans.
Makueni Woman Rep Rose Museo and the county’s Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau also joined thousands of the online community and FIDA in condemning the brutality.
“It does not matter what the woman had done to the man. She did not deserve that kind of punishment. The man should be arrested and prosecuted,” said Ms Museo in response to witness accounts that the man was punishing the woman for infidelity.
