WAJIR—A man suspected of being Al Shabab militant was on Wednesday morning killed between Mansa and Qarsa in Wajir East.

The unidentified man was in the company of three other people. One of the suspect, the forces said, sustained gunshot injuries to the back before he fled.

Speaking at the Wajir Refferal Hospital mortuary section, the County Commissioner, Mr Royford Kipara said the officers were tipped off by the locals.

“It was a coordination between the security forces and the locals,” Kipara said.

The deceased, now preserved at the mortuary, reportedly engaged the forces in sustained gun battle. He was armed with modified ed, wooden firearm.

The incident comes at the wake of a renewed fear of harassment, disappearances and overnight killings among residents of Wajir East and parts of Tarbaj.

“We want to assure the public that we are not going to harass them. We will go after the suspects,” Commisioner Kipara assured.

On Tuesday, the legislator for Wajir East, Rashid Kassim accused the security forces of arson in an incident in Konton and Qarsa in Wajir East where shops were razed down.

“We are investigating that matter, ” Chelimo said without giving out further information.
