NAIROBI—Various Muslim organisations have come together to assist flood victims rebuild their lives.

The heavy rains experienced in various parts of the country have left in their wake a wave of destruction which has washed away thousands of homes, marooned farmlands and caused the death of more than 100 people.

Among the most affected areas are the counties of Tana River, Garissa, Kilifi and Lamu.

The stagnant water is now posing a health risk to the residents in the affected areas with the possible outbreak of waterborne diseases looming high.

The organisations aims to raise Sh14 million to assist in emergency response for towards the flood victims.

The initiative has brought together which include the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslim (SUPKEM), Jamia Mosque Committee, Ummah Foundation, parklands Mosque and Madrasa Association and Maahad Da’awa Organisation. Others are Islamic Foundation, Al Momin Foundation and Masjid Salaam South C.

Speaking to The Friday Bulletin, Muhammad Tarik Harunani who is Country Director of Al-Khair Foundation urged Muslims and well wishers to join hands in helping to alleviate the suffering of flood victims.

“The current situation is not good as people have been displaced. They have no shelter, clothing and food. They are in dire need as water borne diseases are looming more crisis to the victims,” he said.

Sheikh Abdullatif Abdulkarim of the Islamic Foundation said that any kind of assistance in terms of money and food will be appreciated.
