Kulan PostNAIROBI—A 15-year old rape victim from Habaswein, Wajir County is set to be discharged from the Nairobi Women’s Hospital after she was treated for injuries on Saturday.
She was admitted at the facility on Friday from Wajir where she was airlifted from.
The victim is reported to have been raped by three men on February 18 and 19. According the victim who is a secondary school student, she was offered a lift and drugged.
”The occupants gave me water…I became dizzy…and that was the last thing I remember,” she said at the Women’s Hospital where she is recuperating.
”At first, we thought we were dealing with a serious case of sexual violence but it was not as grave as we were made to believe,”a doctor at the facility said.
Police in Wajir County are investigating the gang-rape which happens to be the second in a period of two months.
Habaswein OCPD Caleb Wesa said the girl was gang-raped and left in critical condition. The perpetrators fled but one has been arrested, he added.
Police were still looking for the other two men and he expressed confidence they would soon be arrested.
Mohamed Salah and two others are accused of committing the offence in Habaswein. He denied the charges before Wajir chief magistrate Amos Muroka.
Muroka ordered that Salah be remanded until March 5 due to the sensitivity of the matter.
He cited earlier incidences where rape suspects were released on bond only for them to compromise the victims’ parents, leading to the collapse of cases.
