GARISSA—Insecurity and boarder conflict might be a thing of the past in Lagdera as the area Member of Parliament Mohamed Garane in liaison with the National security service trained and deployed sixty Kenya Police Reservist in the constituency.
The first time MP said the deployment of the officers will reduce banditry and insecurity his constituency was facing.
“It is my hope that the pretense of security and enhanced visibility of local Police reservists will be a deterrent to banditry activities, It is also my believe that this will bring to a close the senseless killings witnessed in the recent past, ” Hire said in a Facebook post.
The rival sides from Borana on Isiolo side and Auliyan from Lagdera in Garissa County have had a history of bloody clashes since 1980s. Fresh clashes are sparked off whenever people from the Garissa side go to Isiolo in search of pasture and water during the dry periods.
On Thursday evening, clan militia from Isiolo killed three people at Eldere ward in Lagdera constituency.
Abdi Koropu, the Isiolo south legislator on Wednesday asked his constituents to remain close to the disputed Isiolo-Garissa border to thwart further encroachment of their land.
Last year, the two warring communities from this two neighboring constituencies agreed to end the perennial conflicts that results into deaths and destruction of property.
Isiolo Woman Representative Rahma Dida Jaldesa termed the peace meeting a “hallmark”, saying such meetings would resolve conflicts and enable communities to live in harmony.
Ms Jaldesa said area politicians from across the political divide have been working with the NCIC to preach peace and unity.
