NAIROBI—President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga have made public appearance and addressed the nation at Harambee House, Nairobi.
This is after holding a meeting together where the two have agreed to drop their differences and unite the nation.
“Uhuru and I will end the divisions in Kenya since independence. We have agreed to work together.” said Raila.
Raila who addressed the state first said that their diversity appear to be a curse for Kenya and its future generation.
“My brother and myself have come together to say this dissent stops now. We refuse to be the leaders under which Kenya falls into a failed nation,” he said.
President Uhuru echoed Raila’s sentiments stating that “today marks a new beginning in Kenya.”
He noted that the national good must always prevail and the state is bigger than any individual.
“We will begin a process of bringing our people together. We look forward to the support of every Kenyan to build a stable country,” stated Uhuru.
This is their first public meeting since last year’s contested election.
Uhuru Kenyatta was sworn in for a second term in November after an extended election season which saw the Supreme Court nullify an August presidential poll and order a re-run in October, which Odinga boycotted.
