GARISSA—A multi-agency elite squad on Wednesday raided an Al-Shabaab camp in Koitile; Ijara Sub-County in Garissa.
The officers recovered two loaded pistol magazines, combat knives, assorted medicine syringes and a walkie-talkie.
The raid followed after information was gathered from communities living in the expansive Boni forest.
“We raided the place after receiving intelligence and fortunately recovered a walkie-talkie, pistol magazines, knives and drugs.” Military personnel who sort anonymity told Kulan Post on phone.
The elite squad, after pulling to pieces the camp, recovered large quantities of drugs and alcohol following intelligence sources that noted the militant group were extremely abusing drugs.
The source further revealed that the militia group sexually abused women from the neighboring communities.
Recent reports that surfaced in March 2018, revealed how the Al-Shabaab militants were extorting huge sums of money from starving communities and forcibly recruiting hundreds of children as soldiers and suicide bombers.
Residents of the expansive Boni forest have been praised for their increased support for the soldiers operating in the area.
The Boni forest has been a hideout to the Al- Shabaab militia who in the recent weeks, have carried out attacks in Lamu County.
The northern counties have also bared the brands of attacks by the rag-tag militia with Wajir County being the latest victim, where a teacher and his spouse were killed.
