NAIROBI – – – Majority Leader Aden Duale will lead a Parliamentary bid to crack the whip on the Teachers Service Commission.
Speaking at the Intercontinental Hotel when elected leaders and education stakeholders met to find solutions to the ongoing education crisis in the region particularly in Wajir County where schools have remained closed for over a month.
“I want to go on record that I want to register my disappointment with the TSC. We will dealt with them,” he said.
He was reacting to the snub by the heads of TSC; the chairman of the board and the CEO Nancy Macharia who largely boycoted the event.
“This is not acceptable. They are not here. I will pick this with President Uhuru and the Deputy President William Ruto,” he added.
He stated that he would not allow the TSC to turn the region into a recruitment center.
He also took a swipe at the Commission’s independence, saying they cannot disregard injections by the ministry and the elected leaders.
” You cannot continuously disregard directions by the head of the policy in the ministry, Ms Amina, on the pretext that you are independent. I will personally lead the Parliament to review that,” he said.
He told the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ms Amina Mohamed to prepare for an appearance before the Parliamentary Committee on Education together with the heads of the TSC.
” I have never sitted in a committee. But for the first time, I will sit,” he added.
“No one should deny the children their right to education, ” Amina agreed.
She added that the TSC CEO, Nancy Macharia was to attend the meeting, but she was called by the Deputy President for a meeting at his office.
“I will invite her after this meeting and a decision will have to be reached today,” she assured.
