GARISSA—-A hyena attacked and killed a two year old child in Dertu village, Dadaab Constituency, Garissa County.
The boy was reportedly sleeping at their house while his sister who was left to look after him was fetching water when the scavenging hyena attacked him. His mother was away, she took her sick eldest son to Dertu hospital.
“The hyena dismantled the eyes and the head of the child, a leg and an arm was missing too,” Fatuma Ibrahim told Kulan Post on phone.
On arrival, the mum was shocked, she could not believe the state of her son’s body.
The police officers at Dertu AP post said that they received information from members of the public and when they arrived at the scene and found the wounded child, they rushed him to Dertu clinic where the child later succumbed to the injuries.
The family now wants the Kenya wildlife Service (KWS) to compensate them. “The Government through the Kenya wildlife service should now come to our rescue, we need to be compensated,” Ahmed Abdullahi, the deceased uncle said.
This is not the first time wild animals have attacked people in Garissa County. Early this year, a lion left serious injuries on a lady in Shanta Abak division, Lagdera sub county.
