ISIOLO—Deputy President William Ruto has called for an end to boundary disputes in Northern Kenya.

Speaking during his tour in Isiolo on Friday, the DP urged residents to leave boundary matters to leaders and elders instead of taking the law into their own hands.

“Conflicts over boundaries at Isiolo-Garissa and Pokot-Turkana among others, have led to closure of schools, displacement of people and interfere with development,” noted Mr Ruto

“Our major mission is restoring peace in this region. Every Kenyan is entitled to live or work anywhere in Kenya. Those people telling you about border issues and causing insecurity in this region are misleading you,” he added.

This is after three people were killed in Eldere village on the border of Garissa and Isiolo. Hundreds of residents have since fled their homes in fear of attacks.

While speaking in Madogashe and Lagdera grounds on the Isiolo-Garissa border, Ruto stated that conflicts over boundaries are major issues of concern among pastoralists and such disputes should not have any room in this century.

He also maintained the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure, education, electricity connection and provision of water and health services will not succeed if there is no peace.

Majority Leader Aden Duale who was present said the government will focus on its Big Four agenda and would for now desist from politics.

“The Parliament will not allow anyone to interfere with the Equalization Fund, which was set aside to benefit pastoral communities in 14 marginalized counties,” said Duale.

The DP was also accompanied by Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti, his Marsabit counterpart Mohamud Ali, Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo and over 10 Members of Parliament.

The Mps vowed to team up and address the challenges facing the region, especially the search for lasting peace to boundary and insecurity.
